Michelle Buttigieg was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Maypole Group. There, she is responsible for financial planning, reporting, and the continued strengthening of the company’s financial processes.
Since joining Maypole in 2025, Ms Buttigieg has focused on enhancing operational efficiency, including the integration of artificial intelligence into key financial workflows, particularly in procurement and expenditure management.
Ms Buttigieg began her professional career with a Big Four audit firm as a Junior Associate within the Assurance department. Demonstrating strong professional scepticism and sound judgment early in her career, she progressed to Associate within one year and was subsequently promoted to Senior Associate the following year. During her tenure, she gained valuable and varied experience, building a solid foundation in external auditing and financial reporting.
In 2018, Ms Buttigieg transitioned into the retail industry within the finance function, where she played a pivotal role in enhancing financial reporting structures, optimising processes across key operating units, and fostering a cohesive, high-performing team culture.
Ms Buttigieg’s move to the Maypole Group marked a new chapter in her career, allowing her to combine her technical financial expertise with strategic leadership. She notes the company’s uniquely rewarding environment: “Maypole has managed to successfully integrate the values of a family business with the structure and professionalism of a corporate organisation. The balance between family leadership and externally-recruited expertise creates a dynamic and collaborative workplace.”
Ms Buttigieg holds professional memberships as a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (F.C.C.A.), a Member of the Malta Institute of Accountants (M.I.A.), and is a Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.).
