Maltese technologist and entrepreneur Wesley Ellul will be taking the stage at AVN, one of the world’s most established entertainment industry conferences, in his capacity as President of Technotainment.
The event is best known for its strong association with the adult entertainment sector, although Mr Ellul’s was invited to speak at AVN specifically for his expertise in Web3, artificial intelligence, and immersive technologies.
His appearance follows recent speaking engagements at CES and other international entertainment and technology conferences, making AVN a natural extension of his work rather than a departure from it.
“I’ll be speaking as President of Technotainment,” he tells WhosWho.mt. “It’s not about the industry label as much as it is about how technology is applied. Entertainment is entertainment, and the tools we build are designed to support creators, communities and commerce across the board.”
At AVN, Mr Ellul will focus on how immersion technologies, including blockchain-based systems, AI-driven workflows and decentralised streaming infrastructure, are already influencing the entertainment industry – and how these same technologies can be responsibly and effectively applied within adult entertainment.
According to Mr Ellul, the benefits are both operational and structural. “There are clear advantages in optimising workflows, speeding up processes, and introducing far more transparency into how content is distributed and monetised,” he says. “When you build systems that are fair by design, everyone involved – from creators to promoters to production teams – stands to gain.”
He adds that while Technotainment does not itself produce adult entertainment, its technology can be used by any entertainment industry to “help increase revenues by utilising the blockchain technology that we built into our infrastructure layer and our streaming services.”
As the entertainment industry adapts to shifting technological possibilities, Mr Ellul believes the confluence of content, community and commerce can be transformational, “especially for creators with loyal audiences, where engagement can be deepened through interactive and gamified experiences.”
One of the more transformative concepts the Maltese entrepreneur will be discussing is microcasting – a model that allowed creators to retain ownership of their content, audience and commercial opportunities through smart contracts, while still allowing revenues to be transparently shared among stakeholders such as cast, crew, and promoters.
“Microcasting changes the power dynamics,” Mr Ellul explains. “Creators own the rights, the audience and the commerce, while smart contracts make it possible to fairly distribute revenue in real time, depending on how each project is structured.”
The Technotainment President says he approaches every speaking engagement with enthusiasm, and AVN is no exception.
“I’m excited to speak at every conference I attend. This may be my first appearance within the adult entertainment space, but given our recent presence at CES and other entertainment-focused events, it made complete sense.”
