The new recommended milk prices
Malta Dairy Products Ltd said the price hikes are essential to ensure the long-term sustainability and reliability of Malta’s fresh milk supply.
It said that the dairy sector is operating under “significant cost pressures” despite the government’s ongoing subsidisation of energy processing and aid to soften the impact of higher feed costs.
MDP said these pressures include a sharp spike in the cost of essential animal feed ingredients across Europe, a higher global pricing for packaging materials, dairy-processing ingredients, and logistics, and MDP’s own infrastructural investments in laboratory capabilities, grade processing systems and cold-chain and distribution infrastructure to keep up with evolving compliance standards.
“Throughout 2025, MDP absorbed a substantial portion of the rising operational cost base to limit the impact on households. However, the upcoming adjustments are necessary to maintain a stable and sustainable sector moving forward,” it said.
“MDP expresses its sincere appreciation for the ongoing trust and loyalty shown by families across Malta and Gozo. We remain fully committed to ensuring that fresh, nutritious dairy products continue to be accessible, reliable, and of the highest quality.”
