The Convenience Shop plc has set up a new foundation in honour of its Managing Director and Co-Founder Ivan Calleja’s late wife Sandra.
Sandra Calleja was only 36 when she died from a brain tumour in 2009, shortly after the first Convenience Shop opened.
The Sandra Calleja Foundation will now serve as a platform for The Convenience Shop’s social initiatives in the fields of education, healthcare, environmental sustainability and community development.
It will be chaired by President Emeritus Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, who will be supported by a Board of Administrators.
Prime Minister Robert Abela, who attended the foundation’s inauguration, praised The Convenience Shop for successfully opening over 100 shops in 17 years, all while maintaining a family spirit.
