Lidl Malta has agreed to make the car park at its new Qormi supermarket available free of charge for overnight public parking outside business hours.

The car park, which includes over 100 parking spaces, is accessible without a barrier between 8pm and 8am, effective as of yesterday (16th June)

This initiative has been launched on a three-month trial basis, after which Lidl Malta will review the arrangement and determine its future.

Qormi’s local council, which had been in discussions with LIDL about this initiative, urged residents to use the car park responsibly.

“We appeal to residents to use this facility responsibly. LIDL maintains the right to revise or cancel the arrangement in cases of abuse or improper use of the car park,” it warned.

Earlier this year, Transport Malta launched a preliminary market consultation to gauge the level of interest from businesses – including offices, supermarkets and industrial estates – in opening their car parks to the public outside regular business hours.

A TM spokesperson told BusinessNow in April that there was strong market interest in the idea and that the proposals will be assessed internally.
