As part of a €900 million COVD-19 economic regeneration budget, Economy Minister Silvio Schembri gave an overview as to how the €100 voucher system for all residents of Malta and Gozo ages 16 and over will work.

The Government announced that each resident will receive four €20 vouchers to be spent at any Malta Tourism Authority licensed establishments – referring to hotels, holiday accommodation, bars and restaurants. These four vouchers will have a particular colour, denoting their applicability to be used at MTA licensed businesses.

For MTA licensed hotels, bars and restaurants, upon accepting the vouchers as payment, they must then apply with the MTA to receive the cash equivalent.

The remaining €20 voucher, which till be marked by another colour, is to be used at any retail outlet or business that was ordered, through a Government legal notice, to shut their doors during the height of the pandemic.

Such businesses include clothes shops, shoe shops, florists, furniture shops, hairdressers, beauticians and beauty salons, and can redeem any vouchers accepted as payment at a particular department within the Malta Investment Management Company Limited (MIMCOL). MIMCOL is a Government entity dedicated to creating, assisting and promoting financial endeavours/projects with the ultimate aim of strengthening the national economic effort.

The vouchers are redeemable until end September and will be sent to residents by registered mail.
