Endurance swimmer Neil Agius and his partner Lara Vella are expecting their first child together.

Sharing the news on social media, Mr Agius wrote, “We’re riding a new wave and it’s the start of something big… still early, still unfolding but we’re already filled with wonder. A tiny human will be with us soon.”

The announcement marks a new chapter for the couple, coming less than a year after Mr Agius achieved a major milestone in his athletic career. In September 2024, he completed the longest unassisted, current-neutral ocean swim on record, covering a distance of 142.3 kilometres over 60 hours, 35 minutes, and four seconds.

Mr Agius, a former Olympian, is well known for his open water endurance feats and his work promoting environmental awareness and clean seas through campaigns such as Wave of Change.
