James B. Holdings has officially acquired full ownership of two major joint ventures previously operated in partnership with db Group, marking db Group’s formal exit from the healthcare and inflight catering sectors.
The acquisition, confirmed in a company announcement issued by SD Finance plc on 25th July 2025, sees James B. Holdings take over db Group’s 50 per cent shareholding in Malta Healthcare Caterers Ltd, as well as its 40 per cent stake in Kore Air Services Ltd and Kore Inflight Services Ltd.
James B. Holdings, the company behind James Caterers, is also known for its GlutX gluten-free range and Waistnot microwaveable meals. It was founded by James Barbara, who remains the group’s Chairman.
Malta Healthcare Caterers Ltd provides catering and management services for hospitals, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities, including the 504-bed state-owned St Vincent de Paul residence. The company reported revenues of €131.5 million and profits of €9.96 million in the last financial year.
Meanwhile, Kore Air Services Ltd offers inflight catering to a number of major airlines operating out of Malta International Airport, with administrative and management support services handled by Kore Inflight Services Ltd. Kore Air Services generated a turnover of €8.6 million in the year ending 31st March 2024, with profits reaching €1.09 million.
