A man who died following an electric shock while working on an electricity pole near Golden Bay on Wednesday (yesterday) has been identified as 41-year-old Charles Mifsud, a resident of Żebbuġ.
The incident occurred at around 12.30pm in Triq Palma. Mr Mifsud was electrocuted and fell into a ditch.
Mr Mifsud was previously known in his hometown community as a fruit and vegetable vendor. According to ONE news, he closed his business six years ago during the pandemic, and started working in the construction sector as a contractor.
News of his death was met with tributes on social media from friends and acquaintances. 'I'm at a loss for words,' wrote a social media user, while a close friend wrote 'I won't be making you any more coffee, Charles.'
This case comes against the backdrop of recently published figures by the National Statistics Office (NSO), which highlight the ongoing prevalence of workplace accidents in Malta. Between January and June 2025, 2,188 non-fatal incidents were recorded, compared to 2,179 during the same period last year.
