Former Enemalta and Residency Malta Agency CEO Jonathan Cardona has died aged 50 after battling cancer.

Mr Cardona most recently served as CEO of Residency Malta Agency. Between 2021 and 2023, he led Enemalta as CEO, while earlier in his career he spent six years heading Malta’s Individual Investor Programme.

Prime Minister Robert Abela paid tribute to Mr Cardona, saying that although he was aware of his health struggles, news of his death still came as a shock.

“With his work behind the scenes, Jonathan was instrumental in helping the PL regain the people’s trust in 2013,” Dr Abela said. “In all subsequent legislatures, he served our country in several leadership roles within important government entities.”

“I always saw seriousness and loyalty in every task he carried out, as well as a smile and energy in every step of his life,” the Prime Minister added. “I extend my sincere condolences to his entire family.”
