Johann Buttigieg was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Malta Tourism Authority in December 2019, after a 30-year-long career in planning.
Before moving to the MTA, he served as Executive Chairman of the Planning Authority, between June 2013 and December 2019. Previously, he held the position of Focal Point between the then Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) and the Office of the Prime Minister.
Throughout the six and a half years at the helm of the Planning Authority, he was instrumental in the reform of the sector, which took place in 2016, and in the planning regulator’s contribution to the development of the country and its economy.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning from the University of Malta.
