The United Kingdom remained Malta's largest source market in June 2026, accounting for 21.2 per cent of passenger traffic and registering year-on-year growth of 14.6 per cent.

Italy, Poland, Germany and Spain rounded out the airport's top five markets. Notably, Poland recorded the strongest growth among them, with passenger numbers rising by 52.4 per cent, while Spain grew by 15.3 per cent, Italy by 8.5 per cent, and Germany by 4.7 per cent.

The figures were reported by Malta International Airport, as it confirms another strong month of passenger growth, welcoming 1,079,703 passengers in June 2026, representing a 16.9 per cent increase over the same month last year.

The month was particularly significant for the airport's route development strategy, with the introduction of two new services aimed at strengthening Malta's international connectivity.

Norwegian Airlines launched a direct connection to Billund in Denmark on 3 June, while on 8 June Delta Air Lines operated the first-ever direct flight between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Malta by a United States carrier, marking a milestone for the country's aviation sector.

The airport also recorded a 20.6 per cent increase in seat capacity during the month, although the seat load factor eased to 84.2 per cent, down 2.7 percentage points from a year earlier.
