Global pharmaceutical firm, Alvogen, has made 18 employees redundant, sources within the firm have confirmed.

The admission comes off the back of reports in the local media, which stated that half of the firm’s workforce in Malta were laid off, due to a decrease in international business.

Higher-level executives are amongst those included in the cull, this website has learnt.

Alvogen has been operating in Malta since 2015, employing 1,700 people worldwide and operating manufacturing and development sites in the US and Asia, with these also being its main markets.

On its website, it describes itself as a “global, privately owned pharmaceutical company focused on developing, manufacturing and selling generic, brand, over-the counter (OTC) and biosimilar products for patients around the world.”
