Norma Saliba has been appointed the new head of news at Malta’s Public Broadcasting Services.
Ms Saliba, who succeeds news veteran Reno Bugeja, was unanimously approved by the PBS board of directors during a vote last Wednesday.
A familiar face on the national broadcaster, Ms Saliba has over 20 years’ experience in journalism, starting her career as a sports reporter for Labour Party TV station One, before moving on to work at PBS, anchoring news bulletins and producing current affairs programme TVAM.
Recently, she moved on to the Office of the President, where she serves as the President’s spokesperson.
Besides winning various awards from the Institute of Maltese Journalists, Ms Saliba was the first woman to be elected as President of the same institute in 2017.
