Piscopo's Cash and Carry has denied a rumour, circulating in recent weeks, that it would be closing down and turned into a SPAR supermarket.

Piscopo’s Cash and Carry, a well-known supermarket and discount store in St Paul's Bay, has been the subject of rumours that it is set to be acquired by Dutch supermarket chain SPAR.

However, a spokesperson for the business has flatly denied the claim.

Speaking to WhosWho.mt, a representative for Piscopo’s Cash and Carry confirmed that while the rumours have reached their ears, there is no truth to the claims.

“The store is not being sold. It will remain Piscopo’s Cash and Carry, as it has always been,” the spokesperson said.

Located on Triq Erba’ Mwieżeb, the store has long served the northern community with a wide range of groceries and household goods.

Meanwhile, SPAR has been expanding its presence across Malta in recent years. It currently operates 12 outlets, including locations in Ta’ Xbiex, Marsaxlokk, Marsascala, Valletta, and Ħamrun, as well as two situated in the St Paul's Bay/Buġibba area itself.

The chain was first introduced in Malta in 2018. At the time, it planned to reach 23 locations by 2025.
