The newly-appointed Hospice Chairperson, Bernadette Bonnici Kind, together with the NGO’s Chief Executive Officer, Kenneth Delia - accompanied by new council administrators - met with the President’s wife, Miriam Vella, to discuss the entity’s forthcoming plans.

The meeting, which took place at the President’s official residence at San Anton, provided a platform to discuss Hospice Malta’s upcoming AGM, on the 20th of July, as well as updates on the St Michael Hospice project, the NGO said in a statement.

St Michael’s Hospice – the island’s first “Hospice complex” aiming to provide state-of-the-art palliative care – will include an in-patient unit; an extension of the current therapy services and a spate of out-patient clinics, as well as an educational wing.

The new Hospice will be housed in the former Cini Institute, which is currently being refurbished for the purpose.

During the meeting, the difficulties experienced by patients and their families during the pandemic were also discussed, as well as the necessity for the business community to aid in providing help to those needing it most.

“Hospice is encouraged by the positive response received by local banks and corporations who share the same vision of the necessity of palliative care by offering financial support,” Ms Bonnici Kind said, adding that every little bit helps. She also encouraged everyone to make a contribution, however small, to Hospice Malta through its website or other channels.
