McDonald’s Malta on Monday (today) announced that its Sliema restaurant is set to reopen soon following six months of refurbishment.

The establishment closed for refurbishment last January as the team worked on giving the restaurant a fresh new look.

It was the first time since 1996 that McDonald’s did not have an establishment operating in Sliema.

That seems to be coming to an end soon, with a social media post from the franchise stating that “the countdown [for the reopening] is on.”

A representative of Hili Ventures, the parent company of McDonald’s developmental licencee Premier Capital plc, confirmed that the restaurant will be reopening in the same location in Sliema.

The reopening was first hinted at last month, with a cryptic post showcasing the work inside the store together with people holding a simple “open soon” sign.

In 1996, McDonald’s opened its doors to the public at the Plaza Shopping Centre, yet that establishment eventually closed in 2015. In the meantime, a new flagship store at the Sliema seafront – the same store that has been under refurbishment – was opened in 2013.

Today, there are nine McDonald’s restaurants spread across Malta and Gozo, namely in Buġibba, St Julian’s (Bay Street and Spinola), Għargħur, Valletta, Birkirkara, Luqa, Rabat (Gozo), and the soon-to-reopen Sliema one.
