Glitnor Group’s “Antarctica Challenge” raised €18,000 for charity CEO David Flynn revealed on Wednesday.
The Malta-based iGaming company launched The Antarctica Challenge in January, which challenged the company to cover 14,372 kilometres (the distance between Malta and Antarctica) virtually in four weeks.
As part of the challenge, Glitnor said that it would match the distance covered in Euros.
Recounting the journey, Mr Flynn revealed that the challenge was made harder by the fact that many of the team participating were in lockdown, and for many working abroad, the outside temperatures were well below zero.
By the end of the second week, the participants had only covered a quarter of the distance required, however, Mr Flynn reveals how his team came together and collectively encouraged each other to go “that extra mile”.
By the end of the challenge, the team covered a total distance of 15,070 kilometres, which, Mr Flynn jokes, meant they not only made it to Antarctica, “but even had time for sightseeing”.
The money raised will go to GlobalGiving Charity, and the team achieved something it can “look back on and be really proud to [have been] a part of”.
“Does Charity have a place at work? Hell yeah!” said Mr Flynn.
More information on the challenge can be found on its JustGiving page.
