Kurt Farrugia has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Residenza Malta, bringing to the agency more than a decade of experience in senior public sector leadership roles.

The Ministry for Education and Sport announced that Mr Farrugia will assume the position on 1st July 2026.

Mr Farrugia joins Residenza Malta after serving as CEO of Transport Malta for the past two years. During his tenure, he oversaw a number of strategic initiatives across Malta's land transport, maritime and aviation sectors, according to the ministry.

Before leading Transport Malta, he spent five years as CEO of Malta Enterprise, where he played a key role in attracting foreign direct investment, supporting local businesses through various assistance schemes, and helping to develop Malta's start-up ecosystem. His appointment to Malta Enterprise in 2019 followed several years as Head of Government Communications and spokesperson to the Prime Minister, a role in which he accompanied the Prime Minister during numerous international engagements and formed part of various national task forces focused on investment promotion and major international summits.

Mr Farrugia graduated in Communications from the University of Malta and has also pursued postgraduate studies in entrepreneurship.

Welcoming the appointment, Minister Byron Camilleri said Mr Farrugia's experience in public administration, strategic planning and organisational leadership would strengthen Residenza Malta's mission of attracting talent and investment that contribute to Malta's continued economic and social development.

The ministry also paid tribute to the late Jonathan Cardona, acknowledging his contribution to the growth and development of Residenza Malta during his tenure as CEO.
