Birkirkara’s Smart Supermarket is set to be redeveloped into a shopping mall.

The supermarket itself, which has been in operation since 1981, will be redesigned and remain open throughout the project.

Meanwhile, a mall with several retail outlets and eateries, along with a five-level underground car park, will be developed.

The building façade is also set to be recessed by almost 1,000 square metres, providing a new open space on Naxxar Road. 

Civil works have been entrusted to ESC Group and the project is set to take 16 months to complete, with a launch date scheduled for 2027.
