Uber and its Maltese partner are understood to be reviewing their relationship and certain changes are expected.

Since entering the Maltese market in 2022, the US cab giant has engaged Rides & Eats – a subsidiary of Alf Mizzi & Sons – as its local partner.

The company has a physical office in Malta and provides services such as on-boarding support for drivers and certain marketing services.

Rides & Eats CEO Sebastian Ripard and Alf. Mizzi & Sons Group CEO Alec Mizzi confirmed with WhosWho.mt that certain changes are set to take place.

Mr Ripard said that “the scope of the services we offer Uber is set to change”.

However, he said the changes will have no impact on customers or drivers and that Uber will remain available in Malta.

He said it is too early to provide any more details on what the changes could look like.

Cab platforms have exploded in popularity in recent years, and there are almost 5,000 registered Y-plate vehicles. Recent data shows the country handles around 55,000 trips per day and over 20 million per year.

If each ride is valued at an average of €10, this would translate into annual revenues exceeding €200 million.
