Maltese pastizzeria Sphinx is taking Malta’s beloved pastries overseas by opening a new outlet in London.
As first reported by Tooting Newsie, Sphinx’s London branch will open at Tooting Market in the space previously occupied by The Lone Fisherman, a Caribbean food outlet.
The new outlet will be just a short walk away from M.C.Sims, another pastizzeria operating in Tooting.
A household name in Malta, Sphinx was founded in 1995 by Albert Muscat and it is currently run by his sons Elvin ‘Vinu' and Aaron Muscat.
In recent years, Sphinx has expanded its offering beyond the traditional ricotta and pea pastizzi, experimenting with a range of fillings.
It has also put its own spin on the Maltese snack with the ‘tartizz’, a larger, tart-like version of the traditional pastizz.
