The architect of the building in Wilga Street, Paceville, has recommended that the property be demolished after declaring that it is no longer safe or healthy for habitation.

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) evacuated residents from the apartments in the building in August following concerns over its deteriorating structural integrity.

Trident Estates owns the outlet forming part of the building, which was closed in January of this year.

According to the company’s half-yearly financial statements, the outlet was stripped out shortly after closing to allow repair works to begin.

However, professional advice subsequently indicated that the building should instead be demolished and redeveloped to ensure greater longevity. Management also encouraged the other owners within the building to consider a joint redevelopment but attempts to reach an agreement were unsuccessful.

The situation escalated in August when the BCA evacuated the occupants after the architect declared that, due to the deterioration in the building’s structural integrity, the premises were no longer safe or healthy for habitation or for third parties in the vicinity.

The architect consequently recommended that the building be demolished.

The report said discussions with the relevant authorities and the other owners are ongoing as they seek to determine the way forward for the property.
