On Friday, the newly appointed Commissioner for Information and Data Protection, Ian Deguara, was officially sworn in.
In a statement issued by the Ministry for Justice, Equality and Governance, it was said that the Commissioner’s work for the upcoming year will consist of an information campaign surrounding the launch of a GDPR compliance tool.
This will be drawn up by the Office of the Information and Data Protection Commission to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) ensure they are adhering to data protection requirements.
Through this tool, the Ministry said, SMEs will be able to implement GDPR requirements more holistically.
This work complements activities already undertaken by the Commission, such as the implementation of GDPR regulations together with advice and guidelines provided on the fundamental rights surrounding data protection.
The campaign will be broadcast on several media platforms, such as television, radio and social media.
Justice Minister Edward Zammit Lewis applauded Mr Deguara on his nomination and maintained the importance of the role for local society.
