The Ministry for Justice, Equality and Governance has announced that Ian Deguara has been appointed as the new Commissioner for Information and Data Protection.

Mr Deguara is a graduate in Information and Administration from the University of Malta. He was one of the first employees in the Office for Information and Data Protection since its inception in 2002.

Throughout his years of service within the Office, Mr Deguara has occupied various roles and formed part of the national task force for the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Since January 2020, Mr Deguara has served as Deputy Commissioner.

The Minister for Justice, Equality and Governance Edward Zammit Lewis congratulated Mr Deguara on his appointment and wished him every success in the role he will occupy for the coming years.

Minister Zammit Lewis also thanked the ex-Commissioner for Information and Data Protection Saviour Cachia for the service he provided to the country over the last years.
