Non-Executive Director Henri Mizzi has parted ways with HSBC Bank Malta following his recent appointment as Judge in the Superior Courts of Malta, the bank announced on Tuesday.

HSBC added that he has also relinquished his posts of Audit Committee member and Remuneration and Nomination Committee Member of the bank.

Dr Mizzi’s judiciary appointment was announced last September, along with Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras and lawyer Mark Simiana. This followed a public call issued in July by Minister for Justice Jonathan Attard.

Dr Mizzi joined the bank in April 2022, with regulatory approval for his appointment being granted the following October.

The bank’s Board of Directors thanked Dr Mizzi for his “valuable insight, positive contribution, and professional service” given throughout his time in office.

HSBC said that a replacement will be announced “at the appropriate time”.

Dr Mizzi is a seasoned lawyer, and is well-known among legal circles for having spent more than 30 years at Camilleri Preziosi Advocates, initially as an Associate, then Partner, up until 2020. There he was tasked with advisory and transactional responsibilities, as well as overseeing the firm’s dispute resolution practice and some of its most important cases.

He holds a Doctor of Laws from University of Malta, as well as a Master degree from University of Cambridge.
