Transport Malta CEO Kurt Farrugia has been named Chief Commercial Officer for Valletta FC, joining a high-powered team assembled by Club President Claudio Grech, a former PN MP, to lead one of Malta's most popular teams as it rejoins the Premier League.
Valletta FC suffered a shock relegation in the 2023/2024 season, before winning promotion to the top division the following season.
Now, the club has unveiled a slew of new appointments to its committee and management team to mark what it describes as "a pivotal step" in its long-term transformation strategy.
Mr Farrugia, who currently leads Transport Malta after a five-year stint as Malta Enterprise CEO, will be responsible for driving the club's commercial strategy, revenue generation, and business growth. His role is crucial in ensuring the financial success of the club by maximising income from various streams beyond match day revenue.
eCabs CEO Andrew Bezzina and iGaming tech firm Mosaic COO Robert Galea will be joining him in the club's core management team. Both are leading figures in the digital startup scene, and are expected to strengthen Valletta FC's commercial and digital positioning.
ARQ Managing Director and HSBC Bank Malta Chairman Manfred Galdes, who previously led Malta's Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit for eight years, has joined as a Valletta FC Supervisory Committee Member.
He joins Perit Ivan Piccinino, a structural engineer by training and a project management expert by profession, with over 30 years in the business. He currently serves as Chief Project Manager for MIDI, a listed company involved in the landmark Tigne Point and Manoel Island property development projects.
The Supervisory Committee, headed by Perit David Felice, Managing Partner at leading architecture practice AP Valletta, is tasked with setting out a new oversight framework aimed at strengthening the club’s underlying values and ensuring its overall sustainability.
