Melita Foundation is funding a series of computer courses being organised by the Paulo Freire Institute throughout the summer.
Tailored for people with no prior computer experience, the courses are available to senior citizens and vulnerable members of the community. They will take place at the institute’s premises in Zejtun.
“The Paulo Freire Institute has, over recent decades, empowered hundreds of vulnerable people through its education, counselling, and community-based programmes,” Melita Foundation Chair Tanya Sammut Bonnici said.
Prof Sammut Bonnici added that Melita Foundation is also “focused on helping everyone in society benefit from technology,” and is “more than happy to support these computer courses which will help those who attend to begin acquiring the skills to improve their lives”.
Paulo Freire Institute Director Edgar Busuttil highlighted the importance of computer literacy in today’s world, as it is “essential to stay in touch with loved ones and in our working lives”.
“Our institute has always worked hard to listen to the needs of the vulnerable in society and to provide practical support that can make a difference,” he continued.
“This is just what these computer courses are designed to do, and we are grateful to Melita Foundation for their support which is helping us to run multiple courses during summer,” Fr Busuttil SJ concluded.
Founded in 2020 by Melita Ltd, Melita Foundation seeks to support and collaborate with non-profit organisations and individuals to enhance Malta’s digital skills, creativity, environment, and heritage development. Among its initiatives, the charitable foundation recently supported The Wellness Pod, a programme targeted towards children dealing with a loss or a serious illness of a family member.
