When McDonald's Malta launched its limited-edition 'Friends' collection on 5th February, few could have predicted just how quickly it would disappear from shelves. Within around 10 days, the collectables were effectively sold out, as fans rushed to secure their favourite characters from the iconic sitcom.

The campaign allowed customers to purchase the themed collectables with either a Big Mac McMenu or a 9-Pack Chicken McNuggets McMenu – the latter accompanied by Monica’s Marinara Sauce, a playful nod to the show.

In addition, four limited-edition 'Friends' mugs were made available for 800 loyalty points, while a tote bag could be redeemed for 600 points.

McDonald’s Malta described the initiative as an effort to create shared experiences rooted in nostalgia. “This collaboration has allowed us to blend the nostalgia of 'Friends' with the feel good experience our guests expect from McDonald’s Malta,” the company told WhosWho.mt, noting that the response “has been extraordinary.”

According to the company, excitement was evident both in restaurants and online from the moment the campaign launched, with fans so enthusiastic that “the collectables and merchandise sold out very quickly.” The speed at which the items disappeared has also fuelled activity on local Facebook group MCDonalds Toy Swap and Sell, where collectors are looking to buy or trade pieces to complete their sets.

For those who missed out, there is good news, and there's no need for panic like Ross's when someone ate his sandwich, as the company confirmed that “the collectables will be restocked.”

Nearly three decades after it first aired, 'Friends' continues to resonate strongly with audiences worldwide, including Malta.
