Jonathan Gerada has been appointed Chief AI Officer, a new position within the Maltese public service.
In a statement, the Principal Permanent Secretary said that Mr Gerada has over 20 years of experience in IT and related fields, with particular emphasis on digital transformation, emerging technologies, and governance.
He joined the Public Service 14 years ago and served as Chief Information Officer for ten years.
The statement said that Mr Gerada has played a leading role in strategic ICT initiatives, as well as in various projects related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data, throughout his career.
In his new position, Mr Gerada will be entrusted with coordinating all AI-related projects within the public service.
This comes as the Government pledged €100 million towards accelerating the digital transition, and adopting AI and emerging technologies.
