If there was ever a day when Malta’s brands collectively decided to suspend logic, today is it. April Fool’s Day has once again turned social media into a playground of questionable inventions, unlikely announcements and the kind of ideas that make you pause for just a second before realising… surely not.

The Malta National Aquarium, announced a new “policy” requiring visitors to attend with their own pet fish. While the logistics of transporting your goldfish to Qawra were left unexplained, the image of families queuing with bowls in hand was enough.

Meanwhile, Cisk decided to lean into summer early with the launch of a fictional “Cisk Frisk floaty” – which is not entirely a bad idea.

Over in the culinary corner, Dave's Food Store may have caused the most confusion (and possibly outrage) with its now “sold out” KitKat pizza. According to their post, Malta embraced the chocolate-topped creation with alarming enthusiasm, before a dramatic shortage forced production to halt. Supplies, they claimed, are being escorted from northern Italy – though one suspects Italians might consider this a culinary crime on par with pineapple on pizza.

Dessert lovers were not spared either. Sottozero offered a tongue-in-cheek solution to one of life’s small tragedies – dropped ice cream – with a “Zero Stain Remover”.

Dewfresh unveiled a range of ice cream flavours that can only be described as adventurous: caramel bacon bliss, chicken nugget crunch, and BBQ sausage swirl.

Taken together, this year’s pranks show just how willing Maltese brands are to poke fun at themselves – and at their audiences. And while probably none of these products will make it to shelves, they’ve done exactly what April Fool’s is meant to do: Entertain, confuse, and spark just enough doubt to make you double-check before believing what you read online.
