Malta’s first delivery-only grocery store has officially arrived, food delivery service Wolt in Malta announced on Thursday.

Through the delivery-only store, called Wolt Market, customers are offered a curated selection of 2,500 products from food to everyday items, and the assortment is developed further based on customer wishes.

“We are super happy to finally be opening Wolt Market in Malta. Ultimately, we hope to help people save time by making weekly grocery shopping easy and quick. We can’t wait to see how the store takes off and how people start using it over time,” says Athanasios Bilalis, General Manager of Wolt Market in the Mediterranean region.

Customers can place orders through the Wolt application normally used to order take-aways, or Wolt’s website, and choose between home delivery and self-pickup. Orders can also be placed in advance, allowing the desired delivery time to be determined to the nearest five minutes.

Wolt Market Burmarrad sets out to serve various localities, including Mellieha, Bugibba, Mosta, Naxxar, Mgarr, Rabat, Attard, Birkirkara, and St Julian's.

All deliveries are handled by Wolt courier partners, and the average delivery time is estimated to be around 30 minutes from placing the order.

The very first Wolt Market was launched in Helsinki in the spring of 2020. Today, Wolt Market operates in 22 countries and has opened 50+ stores. According to Athanasios Bilalis, Wolt Market sets out to expand also in the Mediterranean region in the future.

“We’re looking to make weekly grocery shopping convenient and easy for more people, and we’re thinking about different options currently. We hope to be able to tell people more good news in the near future,” he says.

“What’s important to us is that we stay focused on building the best possible customer experience. Our experiences from other markets have been extremely encouraging, and we believe we have found a well-functioning model. At the same time, there are always things we can do better and we’re working hard to improve going forward. We’ll be listening closely to all the feedback we get,” he continues.
