After graduating from the University of Malta as a Doctor and Surgeon, Christopher Fearne pursued his studies in UK hospitals, including the Great Ormond Street Hospital, in London, and became a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He worked as a doctor and paediatric surgeon for over 30 years and also lectured students of medicine at the University of Malta.

He was appointed Minister for Health in April 2016 after holding the position of Parliamentary Secretary for Health since April 2014. After a general election, he was reappointed Minister for Health in June 2017 and was elected Deputy Prime Minister by the Labour Party’s extraordinary general council in the following month.

“Among the various accomplishments during my term, I must mention the introduction of free IVF services, which saw the birth of over 135 new-borns, the new Oncology Centre and the health clinics in various localities across the island,” Mr Fearne proudly notes.

He is a founding member of the Mediterranean Institute for Medical Education.
