Recruitment and human resources (HR) specialist Aimee Vella Bonnici spoke about the importance of wellbeing when internal company discussions are taking place on the need to shore up resilience within an organisational culture.

Ms Vella Bonnici remarked that resilience has been rated as “one of the top skills to develop,” which does not come as a surprise since “everyone you speak to has recently been through a situation at work or in their personal life which has pushed their coping mechanism buttons”.

She added that within the learning space, she and her team at KPMG Microsoft Business Solutions observe and witness this need for resilience, with a number of discussions with her colleagues on this revolving around “how this needs to be part of our organisational goal and ingrained in our organisational culture”.

“Many times when diagnosing the need for resilience, we are actually looking at the need for wellbeing considerations to be made. As leaders, influencers or colleagues, we all have a role to play,” Ms Vella Bonnici said.

Her post was met with several replies from recruitment professionals, who primarily asked her how she would tackle such a situation at organisational level, to which she replied that “putting wellbeing policies and mechanisms in place is only the starting point,” as there is more that an organisation can do. “I think value-based leadership can really impact how resilient teams are. Assessing culture and the messaging that we are getting from our leaders also has a way of being ingrained in our own self-talk,” she added.

With a passion for helping people reaching their potential, Ms Vella Bonnici has extensive experience within recruitment and the learning space. She is currently Learning Business Partner at KPMG, Microsoft Business Solutions Malta, a position she has served in for almost four years. She has also worked as Assistant Human Resources (HR) Manager and Senior HR Executive at the firm.

Her experience also includes more than two years at recruitment firm Triple 3 Group, as well as a year-and-a-half as Recruitment Consultant of IT at iGaming recruitment company Pentasia, among others.

Ms Vella Bonnici holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Psychology from University of Malta, as well as being qualified learning and development professional from the UK’s Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) through Acacia Learning.
