VisitMalta is extending its partnership with Newcastle United by becoming title partner of the VisitMalta Weekender 2026, a two-day pre-season football festival to be held at St James' Park on 15th and 16th August.
The event will place the VisitMalta brand at the centre of Newcastle United's final preparations for the 2026/27 season, with all fixtures contested for the VisitMalta Cup. Newcastle will open the weekend against German club Bayer 04 Leverkusen, while the remaining men's and women's fixtures will be confirmed later this month.
The initiative helps the Malta Tourism Authority to promote the islands through major international sporting partnerships, with the UK remaining one of Malta's most important tourism markets.
Tourism Minister Jo Etienne Abela said the event will help raise Malta's profile among millions of football supporters, while MTA CEO Carlo Micallef described the partnership as another opportunity to strengthen the VisitMalta brand in key overseas markets.
Ticket information is expected to be announced by Newcastle United later this month.
