Gabriel Camilleri, a 22-year-old medical student at the University of Malta, has been elected as the first Maltese Secretary General and Acting President for the 2024-2025 term of the European Medical Students’ Association (EMSA).

Founded in 1990, EMSA is a non-profit organisation representing medical students from universities across Europe, aiming to create a platform for discussions and initiatives related to medical education, public health, and more.

Mr Camilleri has also been an active member of the Malta Medical Students’ Association (MMSA) for the past five years.

“As Secretary General and Acting President of EMSA for the upcoming term, my goal is to equip medical students across Europe with the education, skills, and values essential for every physician, which are often overlooked by universities," Mr Camilleri shared with Newspoint, the university’s newsletter.

Additionally, he aims to ensure that all students, whether in Malta or elsewhere, have the opportunity to express their opinions and ideas.

"Not just among their peers but also to key stakeholders in healthcare, education, and policy. Together, we can drive meaningful change in shaping our future,” he concluded.
