Sixth form students are being invited to gain hands-on experience in entrepreneurship through its Company Programme, previously known as Young Enterprise.

Running over one academic year starting this October, the programme sees students form teams and register their own mini-company, raise share capital and develop a product or service from its initial concept through to its final pitch.

Participants are responsible for the practical aspects of running the venture, including managing money, developing a brand, marketing their offering and selling to real customers. Teams also compete throughout the programme to test how far they can develop their business ideas.

No previous business experience is required, and participation is not limited to students studying business-related subjects.

Throughout the year, students work with mentors and professionals and participate in workshops covering areas including pitching, budgeting, marketing and problem-solving.

The programme also exposes participants to the less predictable aspects of entrepreneurship, requiring teams to respond to deadlines, financial decisions and changes to their original plans.

By the end of the academic year, participants will have taken a business concept through the different stages of setting up and operating a small venture, providing practical experience that can also be included on their CV.

Students interested in taking part can find further information and submit an interest form through JA Malta’s website
