TradeMalta has concluded its first trade delegation to the United Kingdom, bringing together a high-level group of Maltese businesses and institutional stakeholders for a three-day programme aimed at strengthening long-term collaboration between Malta and the UK.

The delegation visited Liverpool, Wrexham and Cardiff, engaging with businesses, government representatives, chambers of commerce, innovation hubs and industry stakeholders across a range of sectors.

According to TradeMalta, the mission was designed to foster strategic partnerships and identify opportunities for collaboration in areas including technology and digital innovation, advanced manufacturing and engineering, life sciences, financial services, hospitality and tourism.

The organisation said the initiative focused on building stronger foundations for sustained cooperation in trade, investment, innovation and sector development, rather than solely pursuing individual business opportunities.

Each city offered a distinct perspective on potential areas of collaboration. Liverpool showcased its strengths in maritime industries, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, digital technology and renewable energy. Wrexham highlighted its growing role as a manufacturing and industrial hub in North Wales, supported by its strategic location, skilled workforce and government-backed Investment Zone. Cardiff demonstrated opportunities in life sciences, fintech, financial and professional services, creative industries and emerging technologies.

Commenting on the mission, TradeMalta CEO Tania Brown said the delegation was intended to support the development of commercial relationships that can drive trade, investment and economic growth.

“The objective of this business delegation was to strategically invest in building the commercial relationships that drive trade, investment, and long-term economic growth,” she said.

Ms Brown added that the delegation returned with stronger connections, a clearer understanding of mutual opportunities and a shared commitment to translating discussions into business outcomes.

“The level of engagement, ambition and openness from our UK partners has been exceptional, reinforcing the significant potential for deeper collaboration between Malta and the UK in the years ahead,” she said.

TradeMalta said it remains committed to supporting Malta-based companies seeking international growth opportunities through market access initiatives, business networking and trade support services.

The delegation included representatives from both the public and private sectors and was supported by Maltese and UK stakeholders, including Stephen Montefort, Malta’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, and Reuben Mifsud, Honorary Consul of Malta to Wales, amongst others.
