The 2026 General Election came to a close on Saturday, with the votes counted on Sunday. The Labour Party won a 5-seat majority.

Among the candidates elected, are eight new MPs, six coming from the Nationalist Party, and two from the Labour Party.

This number will likely grow as casual elections will take place for seats given up by candidates elected on two districts, and after the expected gender corrective mechanism kicks in.

The two new faces for the Labour Party are Nigel Vella and John Grech. Mr Vella was elected on the 1st District, and is a former consultant at the Home Affairs Ministry and a former head of the PL communications.

Mr Grech was elected on the 8th District and is the PL’s International Secretary.

On the PN side of things, Michael Piccinino was elected on the 4th District. Mr Piccinino is the party’s former General Secretary.
