STL Technologies has joined forces with the local renal health charity LifeCycle (Malta) Foundation as one of the Platinum Plus sponsors of the 2023 Lifecycle Challenge. This year's challenge will see over 20 cyclists embarking on a 2,000km ride from Bangkok in Thailand to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, happening between 23rd November and 8th December.
The LifeCycle (Malta) Foundation remains the only voluntary organisation that raises funds to support renal patients in Malta and Gozo, to help fund research into renal disease and raise awareness on kidney health.
In Malta, chronic kidney disease affects one in 10 people, with 364 patients on haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis at the end of 2022. About 20 to 25 kidney transplants, the other form of Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) for patients suffering from renal failure, are carried out in Malta every year.
Apart from its digital and technology assistance, STL Technologies’ donation will mainly go towards funding the TRACCIA Software Support System, which is the software used at Mater Dei Hospital’s Renal Unit for matching kidney donors with medically compatible transplant candidates.
STL Technologies is no stranger to the LifeCycle Challenge as its Co-Founder and CEO Joe Aquilina has been actively involved with LifeCycle (Malta) Foundation for several years and this year he will also be cycling his fourth challenge.
“As a leading company operating in the tech industry, a sector inherently driven to instill change and development, STL Technologies can deeply relate to initiatives that promote positive change. By supporting the LifeCycle (Malta) Foundation, we aim to extend our impact as a company beyond the digital and entrepreneurial fields and into the heart of Maltese society - the health and wellbeing of our very own,” Mr Aquilina commented.
With the help of its sponsors, cyclists, organising and support team, and the generous response of the public, the foundation is aiming to raise around €200,000 through this year’s challenge.
