Steve Zammit Lupi, the independent mayor of Żebbuġ and an environmental advocate, has achieved a remarkable feat by completing the NorthCape 4000 VIII, an ultra-distance cycling challenge spanning 4,000 kilometres across eight European countries.

He accomplished this in an impressive 18 days and 17 hours, starting in Italy and concluding at the Arctic Circle's globe monument in Nordkapp, Norway.

Mr Zammit Lupi's journey took him through diverse terrains and climates, testing his endurance and resilience.

Reflecting on his achievement, Zammit Lupi shared on Facebook:

An incredible journey starting in Italy comes to an end in the Arctic Circle at the iconic globe in Nordkapp, Norway. I arrived soaking wet after a final day cycling in rain and fog,” he shared.

“It was hard but every pedal was worth it. Knowing Michela was waiting for me at the finish line made it even more special,” he continued, referring to his wife who he married last May.

“An experience I will cherish all my life,” he concluded.

The NorthCape 4000 is renowned as one of the most challenging self-supported bikepacking events globally. Participants are required to manage every aspect of their journey, including navigation, repairs, food and rest, without external assistance.
