Speaker of the House of Representatives, Anġlu Farrugia, has been unanimously re-elected to serve a second term as President of the Committee to Promote Respect for International Humanitarian Law within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The election took place during the 151st IPU Assembly, currently being held in Geneva, Switzerland.

In his renewed mandate, Dr Farrugia will continue to strengthen parliamentary cooperation in upholding humanitarian values, while working to enhance the visibility of the IPU’s initiatives in this area. His focus will also include encouraging legislative action that protects human dignity and ensures adherence to international law in all circumstances.

The Committee’s work is centred on advancing the principles and rules of International Humanitarian Law, which aim to limit the effects of armed conflict for humanitarian reasons.
