For over 25 years, Maniera Architects has been one of the main firms in Malta’s architectural and engineering landscape. Blending design creativity with strategic advisory expertise, the firm has consistently stood for strategic, functional, and imaginative development. This evolution in leadership is strategically aimed at consolidating the legacy of the firm while embracing a purposeful vision for the future.

With Colin and Caden working side by side, the story is one of continuity, renewal, and shared vision - a process grounded in mutual respect and a common philosophy.

When asked what sets Maniera apart, Colin doesn’t hesitate:

“We’ve never been interested in chasing trends or building for the sake of building. For us, architecture has always been about purpose - guiding clients through complexity, creating clarity, and delivering long-term value.” From the outset, Maniera positioned itself as both architect and advisor, offering clients not only design excellence but also guidance through Malta’s often complex planning and regulatory systems.

“Our strength lies in bridging creativity with strategy,” Colin explains. “Every project we touch must add lasting value for the client, the community, and Malta’s urban fabric.”

Colin speaks of the firm’s next chapter with both pride and reassurance. “For me, this moment is about continuity through evolution. Handing the firm to my son, while staying on as a hands-on partner and consultant, is not simply a generational shift - it’s a reaffirmation of our values: honesty, accountability, and excellence.”

On a personal level, Colin says it’s deeply meaningful to see the practice remain in the family: “Professionally, I know our legacy will endure - but with new energy, sharper focus, and tools that reflect today’s context.”

For Caden, building on his father’s foundation at Maniera Architects is as much about honouring the past as it is about shaping what lies ahead.

“I started preparing for this when I was 12. I’m 26 now, and it feels like my journey is only just beginning,” he says.

His respect for the firm’s legacy is evident: “My father has entrusted me with a timeless foundation. My goal is not only to honour it, but to strengthen it with fresh vision and purpose.”

The firm has also rebranded to Maniera Architects, as a reflection of the balance between heritage and innovation - marking a strategic shift in how the firm defines its role in today’s evolving industry.

“A strong brand should evolve with its context,” Caden notes. “This rebrand is a tribute, not just a transformation. It signals who we are today and how we intend to lead - with boldness, efficiency, digital agility, and value-led development.”

Caden emphasises the importance of passion, excellence, and relentless drive as guiding principles: “We’ve tweaked our company name, but more importantly, we’re sharpening our vision - becoming more visible, more transparent, and more engaged, while carrying the Maniera name into a new era.”

The father-son partnership at the helm blends structure with natural flow.

“There’s immense value in mentorship,” Caden says. “I’ve learned not just from my father’s professional expertise, but also from who he is as a person.”

With Colin contributing his experience as consultant on complex projects, Caden will be steering strategy, branding, and digital transformation.

“It’s about combining seasoned intelligence with roaring ambition,” Caden says. “That balance makes us the best version of ourselves as a team.”

Both Colin and Caden acknowledge that running a family business brings unique dynamics.

“The biggest advantage is trust and accountability,” Colin says. “The brand isn’t abstract - it’s our family name. Every decision we take reflects directly on us.”
The greatest challenge, Caden adds, is balancing legacy with reinvention.

“That tension between tradition and innovation can be difficult, but it’s also our greatest strength. It forces us to rethink, adapt, and evolve — and it keeps us from complacency.”

Looking ahead, Caden’s vision for the next decade is ambitious yet grounded.

“In 10 years, I see Maniera Architects as a leading voice in shaping Malta’s built environment responsibly. We want to be known not just for our buildings, but for our impact.”

That impact includes guiding real estate developers, government agencies, and communities toward smarter, more sustainable growth. The firm is also investing in AI-driven design tools and expanding its online presence to reach international audiences.

“We’ll always remain approachable and connected to Malta’s context, but we’re thinking globally,” Caden says.

One of the most striking aspects of Maniera’s culture is how the leadership views its people.

“We don’t see our team as employees,” Caden stresses. “We see them as family. The office isn’t just a workplace - it’s an extension of who we are.”

At its heart, the transition within Maniera Architects is one of thoughtful evolution - grounded in values, fuelled by vision.

“Real architecture isn’t just about aesthetics,” Colin reflects. “It’s about trust, responsibility, and shaping spaces that last.”

Caden echoes the sentiment with youthful conviction:

“We’re building on a timeless legacy - and this is only the beginning.”
