Smart Technologies is proud to announce that its Chief Technology Officer, Robert Azzopardi, has been appointed to the Morpheus advisory board, following the platform’s acquisition by Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).

This prestigious appointment places Mr Azzopardi at the forefront of global conversations around hybrid cloud transformation, AI-driven IT operations, and the future of multi-cloud management.

Morpheus Data is widely recognised as a leading hybrid cloud automation and orchestration platform. Now under the HPE umbrella, it plays a key role in the evolving HPE GreenLake strategy, offering enterprise clients smarter, more agile alternatives to legacy cloud solutions.

Mr Azzopardi’s appointment to the board is not only a recognition of his expertise, but also a powerful signal of Smart Technologies’ growing role in influencing the future of enterprise IT on a global scale.

We caught up with Mr Azzopardi to learn more about what this role means, and what it unlocks for Smart Technologies’ clients, partners, and the broader tech ecosystem.

What does this role mean to you personally and professionally?

This appointment places me at the centre of a global conversation around cloud transformation. Personally, it is a proud milestone. Professionally, it allows me to actively influence how enterprises adopt and evolve hybrid cloud strategies at a time when the entire IT landscape is shifting.

Morpheus Data is now part of the HPE portfolio. What excites you most about this development?

The timing could not be more relevant. With VMware’s future uncertain following Broadcom’s acquisition, businesses are looking for stable, agile, and open alternatives. Morpheus Data, now changed to HPE Morpheus Enterprise, is perfectly positioned to lead this change. Its deep orchestration capabilities, FinOps tools, and AI-driven insights make it a powerful platform. Being part of its evolution is exciting and incredibly relevant to the challenges our clients are facing.

How does your role on the advisory board contribute to Smart Technologies' clients and partners?

It keeps us ahead. Our clients benefit directly from the insights I gain on emerging technologies, future product roadmaps, and evolving cloud management strategies. It means we are not just implementing solutions, we are helping shape them. This gives our clients a competitive edge, especially those navigating complex multi-cloud environments. What are some of the key trends or challenges in cloud transformation that you believe the board will address?

Cost control, interoperability, and simplicity. Businesses want flexibility, but without spiralling costs or vendor lock-in. They want automation, but without losing control. The board is focused on making hybrid cloud not only powerful, but practical. Expect major shifts in how orchestration, AI operations, and FinOps are delivered and we’re helping lead that shift.

What does this mean for Malta and the wider region?

It shows that expertise from Malta can help shape global solutions. As a country, we are often seen as tech adopters, now we are also becoming contributors to global innovation. I hope this opens the door for more collaboration, investment, and thought leadership from Malta.
