Simon Cook will be stepping down from his position as CEO and Accountable Manager at Universal Air.

Aviation-focused Facebook page 'Malta Aviation Outlook' revealed that Mr Cook had informed the Universal Air staff via email of his decision. He reportedly stated that he will continue to serve in his current role until a new Accountable Manager is appointed and officially approved by Transport Malta.

This comes days after the Malta-based airline announced that it will cease all scheduled passenger flight operations from 31st May 2025 onwards, with the last day of scheduled flights taking place on 30th May.

The decision, announced via the airline’s official social media channels and website, was described as a difficult one that had been made after “careful consideration.”

Universal Air first launched its operations in Malta in March 2024, meaning the company ceased specific operations just over a year after its debut.

Despite the end of its scheduled passenger operations, Universal Air remains fully operational through its Charter and ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance) services.

Whoswho.mt reached out to Universal Air requesting further details on the key factors that influenced the company’s withdrawal from Malta, the challenges it faced during its operations, and whether there are any plans to re-enter the local market. However, these questions went unanswered.
