The Nationalist Party’s (PN) speaker for economic investment, Kristy Debono, will not be contesting the upcoming 26th March general election, it was announced on Monday.

Prime Minister Robert Abela quashed months of relentless speculation surrounding the election date after he announced the March election on Sunday (yesterday).

While both parties have kicked off their electoral campaigns with multi-million euro pledges, and the economy remains a main focus with all eyes on post-pandemic recovery, the PN on Monday announced that along with Kristy Debono, education and sports spokesperson Clyde Puli will also not be contesting, as well as former Parliamentary Secretary for Sport and  Education, current PN backbencher, Mario Galea.

Mr Puli is a longstanding figure within the party, having served for around 30 years. Dr Debono, who is an economist by profession, has served with the party for the past 17 years, with 2013 being the year she first contested, and became elected, on the PN ticket.
