The Planning Authority has officially approved the second phase of the Qawra lido redevelopment, an ambitious project set to redefine the coastline of one of Malta’s key tourism zones.

This latest development was approved under application PA 5952/21, which envisions the full regeneration of three adjacent lidos previously used by the Sunny Coast Hotel and the Seashells Resort at Suncrest Hotel.

With a combined footprint exceeding 13,000 square metres, the development integrates hospitality, commercial and recreational uses within a modern framework.

Crucially, the redevelopment maintains public access to foreshore areas and walking routes. In addition, new green spaces will elevate environmental quality and encourage public use.

To facilitate continued access during excavation, a temporary road will be constructed parallel to Triq il-Luzzu, ensuring minimal disruption to residents and boathouse owners.

As part of the planning gain commitments under PA 5952/21, the developer is contributing €90,000 to support urban improvement and sustainable mobility in the area, with €30,000 already paid during the project’s initial phase.
