Rose Anne Cuschieri, the first Chief Executive Officer of Malta’s higher education regulator, will reportedly be stepping down from her role on 10th September, upon reaching pensionable age.

Dr Cuschieri was appointed as the inaugural CEO of the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA) in 2021, when the entity was formally established. She had previously led its predecessor, the National Commission for Further and Higher Education (NCFHE), after being appointed to the role in 2018.

She began her professional journey as a grade three schoolteacher, later serving in roles including coach, trainer, director, and lecturer. Over the course of her career, she has been involved in both academic leadership and policy implementation in Malta’s education sector.

During her leadership, the MFHEA undertook various initiatives aimed at strengthening Malta’s further and higher education framework, although the authority faced challenges earlier this year when it was not admitted to the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR).

Her successor has yet to be announced.

In short, she’s always on the go, drawing inspiration from the little things around her, and constantly striving to make the ordinary extraordinary.
