Robert Abdilla has been named Director of the University of Malta’s Directorate of People, Culture & Engagement, previously known as the ‘Office for Human Resources Management & Development.

The University of Malta, in its announcement, said that under Mr Abdilla’s leadership, “the Directorate will focus on initiatives that encourage recognition and a sense of belonging across all academic and administrative units, furthering the University's longstanding commitment to being a supportive and welcoming environment for all.”

His educational background is in IT, having obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business & Computing and a Masters in Business Administration (e-Business) from the University of Malta. 

The University added that Mr Abdilla “has been an influential leader in workplace culture, employee relations, and institutional governance. He has successfully managed complex industrial relations, represented the university on national and international boards, including the EU Steering Group on Human Resources & Mobility, and overseen vital staff wellbeing initiatives such as the restructuring and expansion of the University’s childcare services.”

As we navigate this change, it is important that we ensure that our strategic commitments are supported by thoughtful planning and responsible use of resources. I feel honoured to take on this role at such an important time in the University's journey”, Mr Abdilla commented ahead of officially taking office.
