This week, Paceville’s beloved culinary landmark for the past 35 years, The Avenue, announced that it is changing location on 25th August, closing the curtain on an iconic address known by all who frequented the nightlife-focused area.

Tucked away in a village known for its loud and active nightclubs and bars, since 1987 The Avenue and its Mediterranean menu consistently provided a family-friendly setting, a friendly atmosphere and a place co-workers could take their lunch breaks in and dine together at.

This week, management announced that the Paceville mainstay will be serving diners until 21st August (tomorrow) and will be relocating to its new location at One Portomaso, adjacent to the unmissable Portomaso Business Tower, on 25th August.

After the news prompted a wave of nostalgia on social media, WhosWho.mt reached out to the owners and operators of The Avenue, the Mangion family, to learn more about the reasons behind the move.

What prompted the change in location after so many years?

One of the reasons we have grown organically over the past 35 years is because of the importance given to providing our customers the very best service and experience. For us to keep doing that, we needed a more practical place and fresher look (as you can see in our newly launched branding), that would enhance the experience for our beloved customers for years to come.

What does this change mean for the team? Was there any resistance as it can be difficult to make such a big move after so many years?

Of course, we were extremely mindful that we wanted to create something that would still feel like home to our staff, and that was at the forefront of our minds during every step of this process. Our team is looking forward to the change and eager to be at the new, exciting location. We’re on the start line waiting for the word ‘go’!

How emotional has it been? Can you picture yourselves starting your workday at a new location after all these years?

There is undeniably a significant degree of nostalgia tied to the birthplace of what is a culinary institution today. So yes, there will be pulls at the heartstrings. Having said that, the excitement of the new project and rebranding is something our family is looking forward to and has breathed new life into the brand we have built over the years.

Will the same dishes still be served at the new location, or will there be a number of new ones added to the menu?

All the favourite dishes which have become part and parcel of The Avenue over the years will continue to be served. We’ll also have some surprising new dishes and cocktails, so keep your eyes peeled. Moreover, the new restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to off our patrons a complete service from morning to evening.
